Dr. Surya Prakash's journey from humble beginnings to becoming a senior consultant cardiologist at Care Hospitals, Hyderabad, has been shaped by determination and overcoming numerous challenges. Back at his hometown Ravupalli, there was no education system at all as he completed his junior years studying under a tree, practicing letters on sands with fingers with no electricity. However, his stubbornness for education made him travel long distances, away from his family at mere age of 11.

After his completion of MBBS in 1983, he completed internship at King George Hospital, Vizag learning patient management. Further, completing his M.D) (Medicine) in AIIMS in 1988, he joined the same institute as a senior resident in the Department of Medicine, also posted as an Emergency Medical Officer at the Emergency Department, upgrading his emergency care skills and quick response. Meanwhile, he also went through rigorous trainings and mentorship at the ICCU unit, Department of Cardiology,

AIIMS honing his critical care skills. Later as a senior resident at the Department of Cardiology in NIMS, he completed DM in 1995-97, he joined in as an Assistant Professor at the same Institute, serving until 1997, where he immensely improved his acquired skills and also developed unique methodologies to ease concepts for his students. Other than this, being member of CSI, IMA, IAG and attaining fellowships from abroad guided by Prof. Denton Cooley (Renowned Cardiac Surgeon from Texas) honed his skills and helped him bring western and newer advancement to Indian stream.

These skills helped him change the wellness landscape, where he left his subsequent job at Mediciti Hospital to establish Care Hospital with his NIMS colleagues in Hyderabad 1997, where he headed as Medical Superintendent (1998-2002), Medical Director of Secunderabad (2002-2019) and Musheerabad (2013 to 2019). He is currently designated as Regional Clinical Director Cardiology, CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad.

He stands out for his pioneering work in cardiology, particularly in introducing innovative treatments like catheter-based aortic valve replacements and developing the Kalam-Raju stent to reduce healthcare costs with his team. His leadership in establishing and expanding CARE Hospitals to 18+ units, along with his extensive contributions to public health aware- ness and medical education, sets him apart.

Other than this, he has had a significant international impact through professional visits, conferences, and workshops in countries such as the USA, France, Spain, Sweden, Singapore, and Malaysia. His active participation in the world conference on TCT (Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics) and the American College of Cardiology's annual meetings highlights his global influence. He has also been honoured by the Euro- pean Society of Cardiology with the FESC title in 2014 and has presented complex cases in Singapore further showcasing his expertise on a - a global platform.

AS A CONSULTANT CARDIOLOGIST

He actively involved as a team member in developing the famous Kalam-Raju stent in 1996, which significantly lowered the price to just ₹6000, was a game-changer in India's health- care system, offering a cost-effective solution for patients requiring coronary artery bypass procedures. This included use of high-grade steel from missile technology.

Rendered free cardiology services at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS) in Puttaparti (1992-93) and established various cardiac services, including a Cardiac ICCU with non-invasive services at Utkal Heart Centre, Bhubaneswar (1997), and a four-bedded ICCU at Karshaka Maharshi Hospital in Parvatipuram (2001).

Played a crucial role in setting up the VIMS - Mother and Childcare Hospital, over- seeing equipment selection and the preparation of all lab setups, culminating in its inauguration by the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in 2008. Outpatient services established on each month in VIMS hospital since 1998 covers at least 1000 patients.

From 2015-18, Dr. Prakash established cardiology services at Andhra Mahila Sabha Hospital, Hyderabad, including outpatient, inpatient, intensive care, non-inva- (2D Echo, TMT), invasive services (CATH Lab), and a Cardiac Surgery department. Inspired by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he also initiated the Janma-Bhoomi project in Bobbili (2017).

Served as the Honorary Consultant Cardiologist to notable personalities including Sri PV Narasimha Rao, Prime Minister of India (1992-97), and Sri Krishna Kant, Governor of Andhra Pradesh (1992-97). He was also the Honorary Consultant and in-charge of the Cardiology unit at South Central Railway Hospital, Secunderabad (2001-06) and ESI Hospital, Secunderabad (2006-07), serving 2,00,000+ patients.
